PGA NATIONAL PRO-AM CHAMPIONSHIP

Good luck today (14 July 2017) to Steve Harrison and Michael “Robbo” Robinson in the Lombard Trophy at Fairhaven Golf Club today.

Steve and Robbo finished on -6 and a share of 4th place. An excellent result for Team Eden.

CAPTAIN’S DAY – Sunday 2 July 2017

The draw closes at 7:00pm on Saturday 1 July 2017.

Please be at the course and signed in by 9:15am on the day, ready for the Shotgun start at 10:00am.

Remember if you’ve added your name to the draw your are expected to be there – don’t let your playing partners down.  Following the AGM, and acceptance of new competition rules, a one game ban (rule 2.4-f) will now apply to those that fail to show.

GEMINI INVITATIONAL

Unfortunately it has not been possible to close down the above competition via HowDidiDo, for the following reasons;

  • The score card has reverted to the old Stroke Index’s
  • Not all guests CDH ID numbers were recognised

A query has been issued to HowDidiDo to resolve the Stroke Index problem.

The cards will be checked manually and results announced thereafter.

CAPTAIN’S MESSAGE (May 2017)

Gents,

Brian Durham (Competition Secretary) and I carried out the draws for the club Singles, Fourball and Foursomes knockouts today, Monday 1st May 2017.  Members may be wondering why some names are not in the draws this is because all members were advised this year that when booking in they were also required to pay.  Several reminders were placed in and around the locker room, shop and on the website.  The decision this year to pay before the draw was made was a direct result of players not paying the entry last year.

Another reminder to all players entering and playing in club competitions. All players must sign in before play, yet again this weekend several players were disqualified for not signing the card or filling in the details on the card correctly.  This makes Brian’s job more time consuming as he has to check all cards not just the winning 9 or 12.

If any member has any questions regarding anything to do with the competitions, please drop me an email or text message and I will promise to look at each request with Brian and return with an answer ASAP.

I think we would all like to pass on our thanks to Mick Nolan and his team for the hard work that has been done over the last week and especially the work on the greens that are looking fabulous, please remind your playing partners to repair all pitch marks that will enable us to keep the greens looking this way.

Finally we have a busy programme ahead with opens and club competitions including the 25th anniversary day, (details will be published in the next couple of days). The Gemini Invitational can be booked in the shop (entry forms are available in the locker room) and members are required to provide the guests CDH number so they can be added to the Psi system to enable the scores to be entered on the day.

Regards

Bryan Glendinning

Captain

CAPTAIN’S DRIVE IN 2017

Dear Members,

I would like to thank you all for the wonderful support on Saturday at my drive in as Captain of Eden golf club for 2017. It was nice to see the familiar faces that have supported Eden over many years but also, some new faces that I hope will enjoy the season.

The day got off to a great start when I managed to get my tee shot over the new flood bank on the first fairway, the weather started well but then turned a little worse as the day progressed, never the less some great scores were produced. A total of 79 people turned out in teams of 4 unfortunately one team only being able to have 3 in due to a no show.

20170311_094248

Bryan Glendinning, Captain 2017, hitting the first tee shot of the season (5th attempt).

May I take this opportunity to apologise for the delay at the end when recording the team scores on the new system, this is something that we will be looking into for the remainder of the year, the problem seems to be when doing a shotgun start and everyone entering the scores at the same time the system cannot cope with the large input of information, Brian Durham will be in contact with HowDidiDo to see if this can be resolved, if we find that it remains a problem then on shotgun events we will revert to a manual count at the end so we can establish a result and do the presentation asap.

A quick reminder about booking and attending club competitions for the coming season.

All competitions will be available in plenty of time for you to enter either in the clubhouse on the PSI or if you download the how did I do App on your phone or tablet. Can all members please remember that if you cannot play on the day that you remove your name from the system ASAP, failure to cancel may result in a penalty of not being eligible for the following competition. Brian Durham will be posting a notice on the web site and in the locker room for reference.

Finally I would like to wish everyone good luck for the season, a lot will be going on this year including the 25th anniversary that I will be talking to Julie about as soon as she returns from her holiday.

The decision to not play the 3rd hole on Saturday will benefit the rest of the season, the work that has been carried out looks to be working and with a little luck the rains stay small and a bit of heat we will be back playing the full course for the competitive part of the season.

Please remember to look after your course, remind others in your group to repair pitch marks and replace divots.

Remember if you have any suggestions or concerns then please feel free to contact me or any other committee member who will be more than happy to help.

Regards

Bryan Glendinning

Captain 2017

CAPTAIN v VICE-CAPTAIN 2016

The Captain v Vice-Captain match was played in glorious sunshine on Saturday 8 October 2016, with 40 players competing.  The event was both a team and pairs event with the Captain and Vice-Captain making the draw for teams just prior to play.

There were many good scores on the day, a testimony to both the conditions and excellent state of the course, with the results of the pairs as below;

1st                  A Naylor & D Potts              70pts

2nd            Mr & Mrs Knobhead            66pts

3rd=          D Pearson & S Myers          65pts

3rd=          G Hughes & T Gash              65pts

In the team event the Vice-Captain was victorious with a 6.5 to 3.5 win (and yearlong bragging rights).  Below is Jon Comber, Captain, grudgingly presenting the trophy to Bryan Glendinning, Vice-Captain;

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2016

The club championship took place on Sunday 2 October 2016 between Joe Bzik and Nigel Dickinson.  The match officials were Bryan Glendinning (morning) and Brian Durham (afternoon).

The match began in foggy conditions, requiring spotters, on the river holes (4th and 5th).  A temporary suspension was considered when the match reached the 10th, however both players decided to continue with the fog eventually lifting fully on the 12th hole with the remainder of the days golf played in glorious sunny conditions.

The morning eighteen holes was a tight contest with never more than 2 holes between the players, with Joe entering the lunchtime break 1 hole up.

Following the lunch break, Joe immediately extended his lead with some fine play.  Nigel fought back around the turn, before Joe responded and sealed the match with a birdie 2 at the 13th for a 6 & 5 win.

Thanks to those members and visitors who stood aside to allow the match to play through

Below is Eden Golf Professional, Steve Harrison, and Club Captain, Jon Comber, presenting Joe Bzik with Club Championship Trophy.
